The deregulation of the Australian electricity market is about to become a reality, which will being QueenslandEs Premier Peter Beattie and his allies under fire. The 22 government owned corporations (GOC) in the state are predominantly in energy and transport sectors. The GOCEs are allegedly mismanaged and are unlikely to be in a position to compete with more efficiently managed private sector companies.

Miners missing the boat

Article Abstract:

The expansion of Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) in north Queensland remains incomplete. Its main operator, Prime Infrastructure Group cites inadequate economic funding from the government. Two main coal producers, Rio Tinto Coal Australia and Macarthur Coal have criticized the coal operator's decision and are of the view that the company needs to meet the capacity in the given economic conditions.
