Benchmarking new product forecasting

Article Abstract:

Product introduction is an important part of a company's survival, and to ensure its success, product forecasting must be conducted. Product forecasting must be done before the product introduction, and it must be able to determine the appropriate amount of new items to be produced to avoid the high cost of product failure. Methods of developing a product forecast are provided.

Companies differ on their business forecasting function, in terms of the process, placaement of the function, forecast horizon, and forecast monitoring and revision. The developments in the practice of business forecasting are discussed further.
