Better policies provide the key to implementing project management

Article Abstract:

Provision of project-oriented policies plays a vital role in the implementation of an effective project management. Managers are responsible in providing policies that would take into consideration vital aspects of management, such as expectations, guidance, team motivation, behaviors and leadership. A survey of 280 individuals involved in project management implies that implementation of project-driven goals should be done first before conducting required training and establishing procedures to obtain long-term productivity payoffs.

Measuring project success

Article Abstract:

Measuring the success of a business venture or project's early stages is different from the venture as a whole. Success is generally expressed in terms of the scope of the project, resulting quality, cost and duration. The net present value technique can be used to determine the relative success of a project in terms of the accounting discounted cash flow method at any time during its course. Three models representing success from the perspective of the project manager, sponsor and sponsor-project manager are presented.

Effective sizing and content definition of work packages

Article Abstract:

A work breakdown structure that defines a project's components can help ensure its success. Such a hierarchical structure can be categorized into smaller elements called work packages (WP), where each WP refers to the work needed to finish a particular job or process. Ideally, these WPs must be appropriate divisions of a project that are grouped based on size and well-defined in terms of expected affected areas. A checklist to evaluate its breakdown and a form listing required data will make such WPs effective.
