Bosnian combatants sign peace treaty in Paris; NATO peace force deployment set in motion

Article Abstract:

The fighting factions from the Bosnian civil war signed a peace treaty in Dec 1995 that was drawn by US mediators in Nov 1995. US troops will have the largest presence in the region. The need for troops is caused by uncertainty that the ethnic tensions that led to the war have ended.

President signs authorization bill

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton signed a $265 billion defense appropriations bill on Feb 10, 1996, despite his opposition to a provision in the bill that requires HIV-positive military personnel to be discharged. Three other controversial provisions were dropped from the bill before Clinton signed it.

Clinton accepts '96 defense spending bill

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton decided not to exercise his right to veto and allowed a $243.3 billion defense appropriations bill to become law, despite some objections he had to it. Clinton hopes his decision will help in the funding of the US peacekeeping mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
