Brazil's Collor resigns: Franco sworn in as president

Collor de Mello resigned as president of Brazil on Dec 29, 1992, immediately following the beginning of his impeachment trial in the Brazilian Senate for corruption. The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies on Sep 29, 1992, suspended his presidential powers pending the outcome of the trial.

Panel backs Collor impeachment
