Digital bread crumbs through the forest

Article Abstract:

The typical way to search for information on the World Wide Web is to type a few words into a query box, and hope a site containing useful information is discovered. Excite has taken an innovative step in adding real intelligence to its searching function. Excite attempts to guess what the user is searching for as they fill out the query box, and then points them in that direction. A search provides information on the specific topic being researched as well as information gathered from other databases. Unfortunately, Excite has not finished organizing its sites into channels, so not every subject searched has this extra feature. Excite officials explain that it is impossible to organize every piece of information into specific channels.

It's beginning to look a lot like panic; if you think the mall is busy, wait until you shop on the Web

Article Abstract:

Shopping for family and friends online can be convenient for a home computer user with an Internet connection. However, as the holidays approach, some sites were out of stock on items. Others offered free shipping, but charged the customer for it on the invoice. (A phone call cleared that up.) Some industry observers expect problems as goods begin shipping, and online stores are caught unprepared by high demand.
