Bush sets wheat subsidy, Texas aid

Article Abstract:

Many US allies were angry over Pres Bush's $1-billion program to subsidize the sale of US wheat to other countries. Bush also agreed to provide Texas farmers with $775 million to lessen the effects of flooding, droughts and freezes.

Assembly votes against GATT farm pact

Article Abstract:

The French National Assembly voted to oppose a Nov 1992 agricultural trade agreement between the US and the European Community. The pact would cut farm subsidies and was strongly opposed by French farmers.

Bush signs legislation on jobless benefits

Article Abstract:

Pres Bush signed a law that will provide $5.5 billion in benefits to the unemployed. The law extended emergency benefits through Mar 1993 for the long-term unemployed.
