Case study: dealing with poor performance

A couple who run a swimming-pool construction firm have a problem with poor job performance from their oldest daughter, whom they hoped would inherit the business. Performance feedback turns into mother-daughter fights. A clearly defined job description and performance standards are needed.

Keeping assets in the family

Creating a family limited partnership is a way that parents can keep control of assets while transferring them to their children. The use of a limited partnership reduces the gift tax by reducing the value of the assets.
