Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

Prices for basic chemicals, which are used by specialty chemical makers, fell in late 1995, and then rose in the 1st qtr of 1996 due to short supply, low inventory levels, and other factors. Earnings for the specialty chemical industry should be strong in 1996 as a result, although the European markets are expected to be weak. Stocks in companies with good product mixes, cost controls, and stable profit streams are good investments for 1996.

Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

Earnings for the specialty chemical industry have been low for the last two to three years, but several sectors have good prospects for 1996 and 1997, and through 1999-2001 as well. This industry produces a variety of basic chemicals for cyclical and non-cyclical industries and usually lags economic cycles. Several specialty chemical companies have mature markets and product lines, and investors must select stocks on an individual basis.

Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

Specialty chemicals comprises diverse segments in several industries, which may be cyclical or non-cyclical. Earnings were weak in the 2nd half of 1995 for some companies with stable raw material prices and reduced customer supplies. The industry will have a good year in 1996 with lower basic raw material prices and the potential chemical market in China. These stocks are timely for 1996 and several have growth potential.
