Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

Stocks of the specialty chemical industry are not timely in the 1st qtr of the year 2000 due to lackluster earnings, but this may change. There are prospects that profits may improve in the near future, however the costs of feedstocks and commodities are a potential obstacle. Investors need to evaluate these stocks on an individual basis as this industry comprises a wide variety of companies.

Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

Nearly every sector of the US economy is served by the companies which comprise the specialty chemicals industry, and many of these must adjust their operations to meet different demands. Many of these companies have also turned to debt to meet capital requirements as their stocks have fallen out of favor with investors. Most of these stocks have limited short-term prospects, but several have appeal for the next three to five years.

Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

Soft demand in the global economy and a competitive market have led to poor earnings in the specialty chemicals industry and sluggish stock performance. However, industry restructuring, better prices for raw materials, and greater demand from outside the US may improve earnings prospects in the year 2000. These stocks are untimely in the 4th qtr of 1999, but several issues may be of interest to investors.
