Clinton names Carns to CIA post

Article Abstract:

Pres. Clinton has nominated Michael P. Carns as CIA director. A 35-year military veteran, the 57-year-old Carns does not have any experience in espionage or intelligence operations. If confirmed, he will succeed R. James Woolsey who resigned after being criticized for mismanagement.

Clinton completes cabinet nominations: effort produces diverse group

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton completed his selection of cabinet nominations Dec 21-24, 1992, filling the most of the top-level positions. He also made selections for the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council. Most of the high posts were subject to Senate confirmation.

CIA nominee Carns withdraws in controversy

Article Abstract:

Carns withdrew his nomination for CIA director on Mar 10, 1995, after evidence surfaced that Carns and his wife violated immigration and labor laws by bringing a Filipino citizen into the US. Pres Clinton then nominated John M Deutch for the CIA position.
