Clustering countries on attitudinal dimensions: a review and synthesis

Article Abstract:

The variables used in eight empirical studies that used attitudinal information to arrange countries into clusters in terms of the aspects of worker behavior in organizations are examined, as well as the studies' sampling, questionnaire administration and data analysis procedures. The quality of the methodology of the studies is evaluated, with a basis for comparison and synthesis established and future directions for research discussed. The four categories into which the eight studies are placed are: work goal importance; need deficiency, fulfillment, and job satisfaction; managerial and organizaitonal variables; and work role and interpersonal orientation.

Organizational studies: the merits of the Blunt approach

Article Abstract:

In defending their original research against the assertions made by Peter Blunt, Simcha Ronen and Oded Shenkar point out that in limiting their review of research literature on employee attitudes to studies intended to assess attitude clusters by national origin, they rightfully were left without literature covering African or Soviet bloc countries. Other problems addressed in this research defense are: the difficulties of integrating research from complementary but diverse research fields, and the usefulness of interdisciplinary research in the latter stages of an academic investigation.
