Colin Powell bars bid for presidency in 1996

Powell stated on Nov 8, 1995, that he would not run for president in 1996 because he did not have a strong enough committment to political life. He also said that his popularity as a potential African American presidential candidate was a favorable sign for race relations.

Powell issues military 'roles' report

Article Abstract:

Powell released on Feb 12, 1993, his report on the military roles and missions of American armed forces. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff must issue such a report every three years. Powell's report focused on consolidation of the armed forces.
