Columbia agrees to pay $2.5 million FTC fine

Article Abstract:

Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. has reached an agreement to pay a civil fine of $2.5 million to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC imposed the fine for Columbia's "apparent reckless disregard" of antitrust regulations in connection with its acquisition of hospitals in Utah and Florida. Columbia was accused by the FTC of refusing to follow orders to quickly sell the hospitals. This refusal would produce a poor environment for competition in both states.
