Replacing ARCO's 'crude' system
Article Abstract:
Atlantic Richfield Co (ARCO) uses Price Waterhouse's PWS-IDEAS software package for international accounting systems. Available modules include: general ledger, accounts payable, property reporting, joint interest billing, project control, and currency conversion. PWS-IDEAS was tested in ARCO's operation in Turkey, and required just about six weeks to convert from the existing system. Establishing new overseas accounting operations entails purchasing rights for the software package, calculating staffing requirements, sending trained staff into the field, and making the package operational on location.

Improve your bottom line: fixed asset management
Article Abstract:
The use of a computerized fixed asset management (FAM) system to track assets, handle internal management needs, and calculate depreciation can provide substantive cost savings. Most fixed asset software packages are microcomputer-based and can handle basic tax law requirements. Such software must be carefully evaluated with a company's needs in mind. A flexible, efficient package would preferably have: maintenance tracking capabilities, leased asset management tracking features, property tax reporting capabilities, and bar-coding inventory features.
