Corporate allies learn how to take the misery out of marriage

Article Abstract:

Global alliances between companies are a huge business trend, and many companies have found that market competition is very different when such an alliance is in place. Conventional competition relies upon price differences, but globally connected companies measure profit and loss in a broader overview of their diverse operations. Alcoa and Honeywell have formed such an alliance and have already experienced much greater customer satisfaction.

The computer and communications technology manufacturer NEC Australia, in 1989, was faced with the choice of positioning itself as a global competitor or withering into a head office that merely represented its Japanese parent. NEC Australia's management implemented a complete makeover of the corporate culture that solidified its position as a global computer maker. The Japanese parent is now studying its successful management techniques.

The planned entry of China into the World Trade Organisation in November 2001 seems incredible. The West still sees many problem areas in the country and not just economic ones, but China has shown a remarkable twenty year economic growth.
