Distance learning: Ernst & Young's satellite training network

Article Abstract:

Ernst & Young has been using a private satellite network for its continuing education program since 1994. This allows the company to save on travel time and expenses without impeding its employees' opportunity to further their learning. The satellite network service provider chosen by the company is Interactive Distance Training Network, which assists in the planning, development and broadcasting of the educational programs. Each transmission can reach 50 classrooms, which are equiped with two television monitors, satellite reception device and interactive response keypads with microphones to allow students to exchange communication with other sites. Some of the courses offered by the network include SALT Channel, which is about state and local tax products; Electronic Commerce; Competing through Operations; and updates on accounting pronouncements.
