Article Abstract:

John J. Lohrman is president and CEO of Russell, Burdsall & Ward Corp. (RB&W), an industrial fastener manufacturer. The domestic industrial fastener industry has been severely hit by import competition. Mr. Lohrman has been responsible for his firm's survival and restructuring. The company has switched from a manufacturing concentration to include distribution centers with fasteners made by other companies. RB&W enjoys profitability from these organizational restructurings, from ventures into a women's clothing store chain, and from selling of majority interest to a Canadian firm.
