Drugstore industry

Article Abstract:

Stocks in the drugstore industry have declined in 1999 and the year 2000 is also expected to be challenging for the industry due to competition for health care spending, pressures on gross margins, and other factors. The aging of the American population, and its increased need for drug therapy, is expected to be a benefit for drug chains in the future, and electronic commerce has also become a major development in the industry. These stocks are forecast to underperform the market in the year 2000.

Drugstore industry

Article Abstract:

The premises of geographic diversity and larger size have led many drug store chains to develop acquisition strategies in the 1990s, but merger activity seems to have lessened in the US. Drug store chains are using the Internet for online retail sales and are also taking advantage of the aging US population. These stocks are not timely in 1999 and are expected to underperform the market, but several are positioned to have above-average earnings in the future.
