Eelectric utilities in the eastern US have lost some ground, although the Federal Reserve has lowered interest rates, and President George W. Bush has outlined his energy policy plans. The wholesale electricity market has been active due to supply and demand pressures. Income-oriented investors may be interested in these stocks.

Demand for electric power remains strong in the US during the year 2001, but supply is expected to catch up soon. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is also trying to make the industry more efficient. The US government is also turning away from environmental reform for the industry.
