European aid bank chief departs early

Attali resigned as president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Jul 16, 1993, after an accounting audit criticized the way Attali handled the bank's finances. Attali had failed to get competitive bids in the construction of EBRD headquarters.

Packer quits Westpac bank board

Packer resigned on Jan 14, 1993, from the board of directors of Westpac Banking because of a disagreement involving the management structure of the bank's reorganization plan. Westpac, Australia's largest financial institution, lost $1.04 billion in FY 1991-92.

Packer heads Australis rescue

Australis Media Ltd. will receive close to $160 million in financial aid from investors headed by Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd. The cash will allow the Australian direct broadcast satellite television company to remain open through the end of 1996.
