Expanding the role of the project director as the CIO in the Information Technology industry

Article Abstract:

Project directors perform functions similar to Chief Information Officers (CIO) due to the increased use of Information Technology (IT) by public and private organizations to maintain their competitiveness. This is true because the increase in project size, scope, complexity and risk also expands the role of the IT project director. For example, in managing business complexity, the project director, like the CIO, manages relationships between the IT and the client's business environment.

Documentation, documentation, documentation: the three most important requirements of good project management

Article Abstract:

Documentation is the most important requirement to ensure the success of a project. In the initiation phase, the agreement providing for client specifications and costs must be put in writing to avoid future litigation. Changes in scope, finances, turnaround time or quality must also be written-up and communicated to the client during the execution phase. Finally, in the completion phase, a close-out checklist is most effective in documenting close-out activities.

Managing for benefits in information technology projects

Article Abstract:

Project managers must specify a clear benefits statement that would inform management of the development of an information technology project and also manage the project for benefits. Project managers must be able to justify the project, but remain open to the possibility that it may later lose its feasibility. However, this possibility should not deter managers from exerting every effort to increase the opportunities to gain benefits for the IT project.
