Film financiers get ready for take two: armed with new prospectuses, promoters are confident they will do better box office with investors

Content Capital and Macquarie Film Corp, the Australian government's film licensed investment firms, have received subscriptions for just over A$3 million so far. They are shortly to launch revised prospectuses and information about new projects.

Please explain: ASIC is taking a harder line on prospectuses it regards as offering investors too little information

Article Abstract:

The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) believes that too many firms are seeking support from investors without giving them sufficient information to make a proper decision. In 2000 to 2001, ASIC placed stop orders on 81 prospectuses. Some observers believe that ASIC is not consistent in applying its review criteria.

According to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, accountants are slow to file applications for financial planning licenses under the new Financial Services Reform (FSR) Act. Accounting is one of the professions that would come under ASIC's regulatory coverage but it is one that is singled out by the regulator for having adopted a negative approach to the changes.
