Financially driven forecasts in the disk-drive industry

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the dangers of over-forecasting are discussed, using the example of PricewaterhouseCoopers' forecasting company, named Dynamic Drive for reasons of confidentiality. The changes the forecaster has undergone are presented, including organisational changes and changes in the statistical methods used for forecasting. It is emphasized that prioritizing financial forecasting can run the risk of over-forecasting and of obliterating forecasts of product demand variations.
