Don't shoot the escalater

Article Abstract:

Escalation or bringing a project management problem to the attention of higher management must be mandated when the issue cannot otherwise be resolved by team members. Senior management must embrace escalation procedures to quickly expose problems and facilitate resolution. They must also recognize the need for a methodology to accelerate conflict resolution. The organizational Project Management Support Office is the logical group to approach to push for the adoption of escalation procedures.

The effects of marginality and reward on matrix conflict

Article Abstract:

Marginality and a reward system have several effects on metric conflict during the initial stage of a project. A reward system that places equal weight on group and individual goals reduces conflict more than a reward system that gives more weight in individual goals. Paired decision makers with low marginality also show increased conflict. Finally, teams that place equal weight on group and individual goals perform better than those whose reward system places unequal weight on both goals.
