The surge in the establishment of self-managed superannuation funds witnessed in the years up to 2003-04 is on wane. According to self-managed fund consultancies, this trough could be because of the measures being taken by the Australian Taxation Office regarding compliance and auditing of these firms and the sector is poised to witness another round of growth based on choices.
