The stock prices of manufacturers of furniture and home furnishings have risen after the companies cut costs and improved efficiency, but revenue from sales has been disappointing. Slow sales of moderately-priced lines have caused financial difficulties for such retailers as Levitz, which has filed for bankruptcy protection. However, sales of office furniture have risen, and the stocks of these companies should make sound investments.
