GM breaks a sweat on Olympic giveaway

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp. plans to give away 100 cars and trucks to families of athletes hoping to compete in the Summer 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. The auto maker will name a panel of celebrities to select the athletes who will receive a free Pontiac Grand Am or Cadillac De Ville. GM also hired JK Group of Princeton, New Jersey, a firm that manages corporate philanthropic programs, to ensure that its promotion is perceived as fair. GM is also the exclusive automobile sponsor of 37 Olympic events, so it plans to hold promotions around individual events, in an effort to avoid mistakes it made during the 1996 Atlanta Games, in which it advertised too many different brands in too short a period.
