GM plans huge stock offering

An offering of 69.5 million shares of common stock was announced by General Motors Corp. The shares would raise as much as $2.9 billion in cash to finance model development and would be the largest offering in US history.

Chrysler hires Iacocca successor

Chrysler Corp has hired Robert J. Eaton as the successor to Chmn Lee A. Iacocca. Iacocca, who has been chairman since 1979, plans to retire at the end of 1992 but remain on the executive committee.

Ford to launch cleaner-running cars
