GM sues UAW in effort to end strike

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp. (GM) filed a lawsuit against the United Auto Workers (UAW) as it presented a legal strategy to bring about an end to two major strikes at its auto parts plants in Flint, Michigan. The suit, filed in a federal district court in Detroit, seeks a court order that will make it mandatory for the UAW to accept arbitration concerning GM's assertions that the strikes are in violation of the company's 1996 national agreement with the union.

With about $22 billion cash saved up, Ford Motors wants to save up even more because it has plans and it likes the flexibility of cash. Those plans include cutting another $1 billion to add to the vault. The company says it does not plan to use it all in acquisitions, though, but rather in cooperative ventures in components.
