German plane diverted to U.S

Nebiu Zewolde on Feb 11, 1993, hijacked a Lufthansa airliner bound for Cairo, Egypt, and forced the crew to fly to New York, NY. Zewolde surrendered to police in New York without a struggle. He said he had hijacked the plane to the US because his application for entry had been rejected earlier.

Article Abstract:

Jessica Dubroff died while trying to set the record as the youngest person to fly across the US. Her airplane crashed on Apr 11, 1996, in Cheyenne, WY, when it took off during a storm. Jessica's death raises the issue of the ethics of letting young children fly planes.

Commuter plane restrictions lifted

Bans on the operation of ATR-42 and ATR-72 twin turboprop aircraft were lifted by the Federal Aviation Administration after new procedures on their operation and training were written. The procedures were necessary after several accidents occurred in icy conditions.
