Growing pains for Alcas Corporation

Article Abstract:

The unique direct marketing technique of Catco Cutlery in alliance with Vector Marketing is very efficient at meeting the demands of the customer but unfortunately, in summer of 2001, the company was unable to satisfy the demand generated by sales group resulting into lack of supply to meet the growing demand. The flaws in sales forecasting are scrutinized and how can Catco and Vector improve cross-functional communication to be better prepared in the future for such summer rush, is sought.

Cross-functional education: The need for case development

Article Abstract:

The business schools are needed to become more cross-functionally oriented but there is lack of commentary on how to develop and implement truly cross-functional academic program. As per a case analysis, one of the most popular pedagogical tools in business schools, it is suggested that the development of cross-functional cases would aid in the development and implementation of cross-functional curriculums.

Specialist or generalist: Views from academia and industry

Article Abstract:

A research is conducted to determine whether undergraduate programs should educate students as generalists or whether the role of the undergraduate curriculum is that of building expertise in a particular functional area. Suggestions reveal that business leaders, faculty members, and undergraduate business are not willing to sacrifice functional expertise in favor of managerial generalist.
