Harvey Norman, a structured success

Article Abstract:

Harvey Norman Holdings Ltd., the computer and home goods retail chain, owes its success to its franchise system, management of suppliers, and the management skills of chairman Gerry Harvey. Harvey Norman's 350 franchisees are tightly controlled. Sales for 1998-99 reached almost $2 billion. Departments within a Harvey Norman store are managed by a different franchisee. Suppliers are expected to reach price points and provide cooperative margins, rebates, and advertising.
