Stocks in the healthcare information systems industry had a mixed performance in the 1sr qtr of the year 2000, with several showing profits and others large losses. The Year 2000 situation has had an effect on the industry, but many investors are looking past this to the future. Investors will find several good opportunities in this industry with its good basic fundamentals and future prospects.

Stock prices for the healthcare information systems industry have been low in the 2nd qtr of the year 2000, expect for Shared Medical, as Y2K concerns have come to an end. Long-term prospects appear to be good for the industry, however, as the basic positive factors remain intact. There are several good opportunities for investors in this industry in the long term.

The Balanced Budget Amendment and Year 2000 computer concerns have had an impact on the health care information systems industry in 1999, and these stocks have declined in price during the 3rd qtr. The prospects for the industry, however, are good as health care providers are increasingly using information systems and the Internet and other factors are assets, as well. Investors need to evaluate cash flow, earnings power and growth, and strategic positioning when selecting these stocks.
