Hotel/gaming industry

Article Abstract:

Conditions are good for most markets of the hotel industry, especially New York, NY, with growth for full-service facilities coming from acquisition or management contracts. ITT Corp has accepted an offer from Starwood Lodging to thwart a takeover by Hilton Hotels. However, the casino markets in Las Vegas, NV, and Atlantic City, NJ, have softened. These stocks are timely in 1997 and several are expected to perform well by the years 2000-2005.

Hotel/gaming industry

Article Abstract:

The US hotel industry is cyclical with the supply and demand for hotel rooms responding to economic activity, and profits to new construction as in 1997. Markets have had an impact on new hotel construction, real estate investment trusts have also changed the industry, and construction of new casinos has been concentrated in Las Vegas, NV in 1998. Well capitalized stocks in this industry are the best selections for investors.

Hotel/gaming industry

Article Abstract:

High personal and business travel levels due to a strong US economy have allowed the hotel industry to enjoy higher operating profits and other fundamentals. Increased competition has squeezed casinos although the gambling industry has grown, and acquisitions have increased for both the hotel and casino sides of the business. Investors should select only the strongest stocks as this industry is volatile and competitive.
