How a bad acquisition almost destroyed a successful business

Article Abstract:

An example of a failed acquisition illustrates some of the pitfalls that could trap any unwary buyer. In the example, an electronic components distributor bought a company in the same industry, an acquisition that later almost pushed the company to declare bankruptcy. The acquisition proved to be a failure because the owner of the buying company did not analyze his personal motivations for acquiring another company. Also, the buyer failed to conduct an independent audit of the assets being acquired, nor did the buyer investigated the seller personally.

Structuring an acquisition strategy

Article Abstract:

A step-by-step guide to structuring an acquisition strategy is presented. Acquisition is equivalent to buying product lines and market share and could be a cheaper and more efficient alternative to starting a business from scratch. Small and mid-size companies can generate internal growth through acquisitions. However, a strategy is needed to make sure that the acquisition fits into an overall business strategy and would contribute to overall growth.

Factors to consider when formulating an acquisition strategy

Article Abstract:

Company acquisitions are only worthwhile if they meet the objectives of management and increase company value. The acquiring organisation must be well prepared for the acquisition process which should be completed swiftly and competently. Company employees need to be aware of any organisational changes resulting from the acquisition. Worldwide presence is readily achieved if international purchases are made to broaden the customer base.
