In data linkage, it's spinoff vs. parent

Article Abstract:

Qlogic Corp., a spinoff of Emulex Corp. both are racing to be the leaders of the new fiber channel technology, racing for more data-transfer speed between computers and data-storage disc drives. Fiber channel allows data to flow at 1 billion bits per second while connecting hundreds of storage devices miles from the computer. Fiber channel leaves the old standard, small computer systems interface, in the dust. Qlongic and Emulex's sales are expected to grow from $80 million last year to $800 million by 2002. And both companies report that their rivalry is very friendly.

Reno pilots locked in dispute over seniority at American

Article Abstract:

Former Reno Air pilots might seem ungrateful to the American Airlines pilots, because the Reno pilots wanted credit for their seniority along with comparable pay and benefits. It seems the issue of being considered a new hire as of the merger date is not sitting well. The disruption to air travel was halted by a federal judge's order, but the debate could go on although the Reno offices and name probably will not go on.
