The 1999 Telstra Australian Business Women of the Year Awards attracted more than 3000 nominations and presented six category awards. Sheryle Moon of Andersen Contracting won the Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year award and the AusIndustry Private Sector award. Eve Ash won the Westpac Business Owner award. Sally Pitkin won the Ansett Australia Private Sector award. Helen Hayes won the Shell Corporate & Government award. Naomi Eddy won the Young Women's award.

If the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) pursues the anti-competition case against Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd., under sections 46 and 47 of the Trade Practices Act of 1974, many years could pass before a verdict. There have been few successful cases against a breach of section 46. If found guilty, Coca-Cola Amatil could be fined up to $10 million and be forced to reorganize its distribution arrangements.
