Insurance (life) industry

Article Abstract:

Life insurance industry securities could be good defensive strategy investments although they performed poorly in 1995 and the 1st qtr of 1996 and are not ranked high overall in year ahead performance expectations. Some companies, with good acquisition records will do well on year ahead performance. Companies who have a record of paying attractive dividends and maintain a good cash flow can offer good defensive strategies for an otherwise unrestful market.

Insurance (life) industry

Article Abstract:

There were a number of mergers in the life insurance industry in 1996, and life insurance stocks had impressive price gains, as well. These gains have carried over into 1997. Restructuring of several multi-line insurance companies should also contribute to further industry consolidation in 1997 and 1998. Jefferson-Pilot Corp, SunAmerica Inc, Conseco Inc, and ReliaStar Financial Corp are among timely life insurance stocks for investors in 1997.
