Article Abstract:

Earnings for the US life insurance industry are generally not affected by interest rates and stock prices, and are not expected to be harmed by the Sep 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Many life insurance companies provide retirement services as well as death benefits to survivors. Investors must be selective when evaluating these stocks.

Stocks of the life insurance industry have remained in the mid-range of timeliness in the year 2001. Company strategies, markets, and products are shifting in response to the stock prices, and legislation from Congress will have an effect of the industry, also. These stocks are below par for market appreciation.
