Insurance (life) industry

Article Abstract:

Underperforming bond portfolios, negative annuity publicity, and workers compensation coverage problems have had a negative effect on the life insurance industry in early 2000. These stocks are also sensitive to interest rates, which have been rising in recent months. These stocks are not timely for the year 2000, and investors should wait for a more favorable buying opportunity.

Insurance (life) industry

Article Abstract:

The life insurance industry is fragmented and is comprised of several companies which have little in common and might better fit into the financial services industry due to their wide variety of lines. There is considerable potential for expansion overseas for retirement and savings services if regulatory barriers are abandoned and overseas consumers expand their investment horizons. Mergers, acquisitions, deregulation, and the Internet are other factors which investors need to consider when evaluating this industry.

Insurance (life) industry

Article Abstract:

Stocks in the life insurance industry have not done well in 1999, due to the steady rise in interest rates, challenges to sales tactics, and a number of financial debacles. Life insurers are also facing competition from mutual funds, brokers, banks, and others for customers and the various financial service sectors are beginning to converge. These stocks are not timely in late 1999, but investors will have several buying opportunities over the next twelve to eighteen months.
