Israel, Lebanon accept U.S.-brokered terms for cease-fire; Syria accorded key role

Israel and Lebanon agreed on Apr 26, 1996, to a cease-fire brokered by Sec of State Warren Christopher. The pact ended a 16-day military conflict that killed more than 150 Lebanese, nearly all civilians. Details of the pact are provided.

Rival groups free hostages

Article Abstract:

Rival groups of right- and left-wing guerrillas in Nicaragua released hostages on Aug 25, 1993, after learning that the government would be told of the demands of the rightists. The hostages were abducted on Aug 19, 1993.

Last Western hostages freed in Lebanon

Article Abstract:

Lebanese Shiite guerrillas released hostages Heinrich Struebig and Thomas Kemptner on Jun 17, 1992. The German relief workers, who were abducted in May 1989, were the last known Western hostages to be freed.
