Job destruction is not a sound political strategy

Article Abstract:

Proposed legislation by Pres Bill Clinton would reduce the ability of businesses to create new jobs. One bill would raise the minimum wage to $5.15 an hour and the other would ban companies who replace striking workers with permanent replacements from competing for federal contracts.

The president's consistency problem

Article Abstract:

President Clinton has repeatedly stated that his goal is to cut the role of government but his actions belie his words. There is no reason to believe that he will work to cut budget deficits and tax cuts even though he repeated those goals in his latest state of the union address.

Article Abstract:

Many of Clinton's economic goals conflict with the means through which he hopes to achieve them. For example, his plan to improve the infrastructure by increasing government spending conflicts with his promise to reduce the federal budget deficit.
