Keep eyes open for patent protection

Article Abstract:

Attorney Paul Savage urges business applications software developers to file applications for patents and for financial institutions using such applications, especially during electronic commerce transactions, to review patents and applications on file to avoid possible infringement on third-party patent rights. An invention can be patented under the Australian Patents Acts of 1990 if it is a "manner of manufacture," but it is not clear if business methods for conducting Internet transactions can be patented.

'Technological cringe' leaves industry at a loss, says IT boss

Article Abstract:

Furthermore, many large technology companies are reluctant to fund the development of products which would create wealth, choosing instead to provide services to larger multinational corporations. Technology One is an exception, with its own finance management system and plans for an overseas office.
