L.A. County receives federal aid

Pres Clinton approved a $364 million federal bailout program for Los Angeles County, CA, on Sep 22, 1995. Los Angeles, the largest county in the US, recorded a FY 1995 deficit of $1.6 billion. Most of the federal money will go towards keeping health care facilities open.

Clinton presents 1997 federal budget; plan would balance budget by 2002

Pres Clinton's proposed FY 1997 budget totaled $1.635.3 billion, with a $140.1 billion deficit. The budget includes modest cuts for social spending and an increase in education spending. The figures are based on economic projections from the Congressional Budget Office.

The US, Canada and Mexico gave preliminary approval to NAFTA on Oct 7, 1992. Gov Bill Clinton stated that he was in favor of the agreement but that he would add 'supplemental agreements' to the pact.
