LUMBER & PAPER PRODUCTS: A SIZEABLE STAKE IN THE ECONOMY

THE WOOD AND PAPER INDUSTRIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR 6.7 PER CENT OF THE TOTAL VALUE OF SHIPMENTS BY ALL MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES, AND RECENTLY HAD A $4.2 BILLION CAPITAL EXPENDITURE. THE INDUSTRY'S COMPETITIVENESS DEPENDS ON THE PRODUCTIVE GROWING CAPACITY OF THE NATION'S FORESTLANDS, ALTHOUGH RECENTLY GOVERNMENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS HAVE BEEN ACTIVE IN FORESTLAND INVENTORIES AND CLASSIFICATIONS.

THE FORMATION OF THE REGULATORY COUNCIL, DESIGNED TO COORDINATE REGULATIONS OF THIRTY-FIVE FEDERAL AGENCIES, IS VIEWED SKEPTICALLY BY BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT ALIKE. IT IS QUESTIONED WHETHER IT ADDS TO BUREAUCRACY ALONE AND WHETHER OR NOT IT IS ITSELF, WASTEFUL. BOTH BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT AGREE THE COUNCIL WOULD BE A GREAT HELP IF IT CAN ACCOMPLISH WHAT IT IS DESIGNED TO DO.

THE ADVERTISING INDUSTRY CREDITS ITS EXPANSION AND ENDURANCE UNDER ATTACK TO CONSUMER NEED AND RIGHT TO INFORMATION ABOUT ALL PRODUCTS AVAILABLE. THE INDUSTRY HAS CHANGED AND IS LIKELY TO DO MORE CHANGING IN RESPONSE TO ATTITUDES TOWARD WOMEN, CHILDREN'S ADS, COMPARATIVE ADS AND ADVERTISING BY PROFESSIONALS. GOOD ADVERTISING SELLS PRODUCTS AND IT SELLS ITSELF.
