Labor unions are aggressively organizing to increase the steadily declining membership rolls and to generate greater political power. John J. Sweeney, president of the 12.9 million member CIO-AFL is dedicated to rebuilding a strong labor movement once again. Strategies at several firms are described.

The re-engineering of Social Security

Article Abstract:

Social Security will be bankrupt by about 2029 due to longer life expectancies and fewer workers per retiree unless the program is reformed. Proposed changes include raising the minimum age for benefits, increasing taxes and privatizing the system.
