Learning and knowledge acquisition through international strategic alliances

Article Abstract:

The acquisition of new knowledge is essential in the development of new skills. The advent of global competition makes it imperative for firms to systematically manage the acquisition of knowledge to help them develop new skills and compete globally. One very effective way of gaining new knowledge is the establishment of international strategic alliances which bring together companies with different knowledge bases, corporate cultures and skills. Transferring a lean production concept from Germany to the United States: the impact of labor laws and training systems

Article Abstract:

A case study of a German multinational corporation is presented wherein the MNC implemented practices uniformly on all its global branches. It was observed that the practices that worked perfectly in Germany failed in other countries like United States. The reasons for such variation in results are analyzed. In particular it is observed that labor laws and training systems have a perceivable impact on such transfer of knowledge and its implementation.
