Legislature approves Patten's plan

The Legislative Council of Hong Kong passed a measure in support of Gov Christopher Patten's proposal for democratic reform of the legislature. The vote was denounced by Chinese officials, who threatened to disregard China's agreement with the United Kingdom concerning Hong Kong's future.

AIDS: FDA approves two new drugs
Article Abstract:
The FDA approved in Mar 1996, ritonavir and indinavir, two protease inhibitor drugs that show great promise in the treatment of AIDS and HIV. Ritonavir is produced by Abbott Laboratories under the name Norvir. Merck & Co will sell ininavir at a discount under the name Crixivan.
