Leveraging intellect

Article Abstract:

Many corporate organizations view intellectual excellence as the key behind increased industrial productivity and improved management. These companies, which include McDonald's and American Airlines, contend that effective leveraging of professional intellectual processes stimulates business growth by promoting technological innovations and improving product quality. However, there are several issues that must be addressed to effectively maximize the value of intellect. These include the elitist attitude of professionals, the organizational structure and the use of information technology.

Developing consensus on firm competencies and capabilities

Article Abstract:

Corporations need to develop resource-based production and marketing strategies to maximize the benefits of resources that are likely to promote sustained competitive advantage and disposed of assets that do not contribute to corporate growth. Such strategies can be developed by identifying the current competencies and capabilities of an organization through consensus-seeking activities. Among the factors are manufacturing flexibility, knowledge-based competencies and capability-based competencies.

Reinforce for performance: the need to go beyond pay and even rewards

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the effectiveness of using the pay for performance solution in improving the productivity of human resources. Traditional pay for performance practices were examined. The premise that rewards, not informers, do more harm than good, was also analyzed. Results indicated that pay may not be as important as it was thought to be, and that feedback and social reinforcers can have a strong impact on performance like pay.
